Erin Silver is a fictional character on The CW television series 90210, the fourth series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise. Portrayed by Jessica Stroup, the character was originally introduced in Beverly Hills, 90210 as Kelly Taylor and David Silver's sister.[1]

Silver in introduced in the pilot and quickly becomes best friends with Annie Wilson and develops a romantic interest in Dixon Wilson, which quickly blossoms into a relationship. Before the start of the first season, we learn that Silver has shared the information of father's affair with her then-best-friend Naomi Clark. Naomi makes this public knowledge, causing Silver's mother to turn to drink. She celebrates her half-birthday only because her mother always seems to mess up her real birthday. In By Accident, Dixon dumps her after taking advice from his mother Debbie Wilson, but later in Help Me, Rhonda they get back together after Silver says that she loves him. She loses her virginity to Dixon on Valentine's Day. Silver has always had a slightly manic personality, but in Life's a Drag she becomes more unbalanced. She visits Dixon at the Peach Pit where they end up having sex. Silver secretly tapes it and then shows the tape to an entire theatre, causing Dixon to break up with her. She ends up breaking into Ryan Matthews house, claiming that he destroyed her relationship with Dixon, and threatening him with a bottle of wine unless he fixes everything. Silver then attempts to run away to Kansas, stating repeatedly that going there would help her solve her problems with Dixon. A stranger finds her while she is saying random things and acting erratically. The stranger then calls someone to come get her. Dixon and his mother and father find her on the train tracks. Dixon remembers about his birth mother having bipolar disorder and showing similar symptoms, and realizes that Silver suffers from it also. Dixon calms Silver down and they take her to the hospital. Soon Silver finds it unbearable to go back to West Beverly High and decides to go to St. Claire's School for a semester. After Dixon rigs the results, Silver is awarded the West Bev "prom queen" at that year's prom, but admits that she's not prom material, which creates distance between her and Dixon. Later at prom, as she was swimming, Dixon and Ethan ended up having a confrontation which leds to Ethan Ward admitting that he likes her. She runs to him later and asked him about his statement and told him that they were just friends, to which Ethan responded by kissing her and telling her that he doesn't think that they're just friends and that he doesn't want to be just friends.[2]
In season 2, she is seen having a good time at vacation with Adrianna and Naomi on a resort. She receives a text from Ethan, who is now living in Montana. Silver and Naomi decided to play tennis which is only Naomi's excuse to meet a guy named Teddy. The three met as Naomi "accidentally" hit Teddy with her tennis ball. Teddy tried to flirt with the both of them to which Silver responds disinterestedly, which intrigues Teddy. Adrianna catches up to them and it turns out that Teddy is Teddy Montgomery, Adrianna's ex boyfriend. Silver, then, takes a walk across the beach with Dixon and they share a kiss. Silver unknowingly dropped her cellphone at the beach, it was later found by Teddy and he returns it to Silver but not before reading the text message from Ethan. Teddy later shares the message, in which Ethan said that he did not regret his kiss with Silver, to Dixon. This causes Dixon to break up with Silver since he found out that she kissed Ethan and they were texting behind his back.[3] Later this season, she finds out that her mother, Jackie, has cancer and moves back with her to take care of her. Silver begins to feel the pressure of her studies, her private life, and taking care of her mother. Teddy later tries to talk to her and comfort her about her mom since he had the same experience himself. The two grew closer and became close friends. Just when she and Jackie were finally catching up with each other, Jackie suffered a cardiac arrest into which she needed to be confined to the hospital. Silver tries to talk Kelly, her sister, to to forgive their dying mother but to no avail. In the next episode, however, Silver finally convinced Kelly to talk to their mother and the three finally reconcile. Sadly, Jackie dies just afterwards, and Silver was shown depressed after her mom's funeral. She received flowers from Teddy as a condolence gift since he wasn't able to attend the funeral. Silver, later, approaches Teddy on the rooftop and sees him playing Tennis alone, she asked him if he was okay and he responds by saying that he was a coward. He apologizes for not being there for her and she hugged him, saying that he was, indeed, there for her. They shared a kiss into which the two snapped out of and treated it as nothing but a careless move. Since then, Teddy seems to take his interest in her into a new level. He tries to get her to go with him in the Winter Wonderland Dance but was turned down by her. He tries again by making a video of him saying that he quits his playboy days and only wants to date Silver and broadcasted it to the whole school. He, again, asks Silver to go with him but she turns him down again. Teddy finally got her to dance with him just as friends but suddenly kisses her. Silver, caught by surprise, left him and went back to Naomi. Naomi tells Silver to take her chances since Teddy seems to be really into her so Silver decides to give it a try but she later sees Teddy with another girl but not knowing it's his sister, Silver thinks Teddy has returned to his playboy ways. Dixon approaches her later and she asks him about the girl since Dixon was with Teddy when he was hugging the girl. Dixon made Silver think that Teddy is still being a playboy by not telling Silver that the girl is actually Teddy's sister, feeling vulnerable at the moment, she allows Dixon to kiss her which was witnessed by Teddy. After a short vacation, Dixon approached her and asked if they could be back together, Silver rejects him gently and told him that she just doesn't feel that way about him anymore but asks him to stay in her life as friends. Dixon agrees and they hangout together, as they have lunch Teddy's sister approached them and told Silver that she made the wrong decision by not giving Teddy a chance. She also subsequently reveals to Silver that Dixon knew all along that she was Teddy's sister. This causes a strain in Silver and Dixon's friendship. After much persuasion and misunderstandings, Teddy and Silver finally get together as a couple. Teddy's father goes to see Silver and bribes her to break up with Teddy because he feels his tennis career is being distracted; even though she doesn't take the money, she starts thinking about what his father said so she breaks up with Teddy. In the season finale, she tells him she is sorry and that she loves him and they reconcile.[4]
In season 3 Teddy and Silver break up due to the fact that he has been drinking and lying about it, which is hard for Silver because of the history with her mother, Jackie Taylor. After their break up, Silver begins to focus on the West Beverly Blaze, which starts Mr. Cannon's interest in Silver.[5] Silver is almost drugged by Cannon when she stopped by his house to watch a documentary, but left when she saw that Naomi had said the exact same phrase that was said by Cannon in the video.[6] With her work in the Blaze, Silver developed a close bond with Navid Shirazi and helped him with the problems that he had with his father. She even goes undercover as a porn star to help Navid investigate. As she gets to know Navid, she realizes what a great guy he is and slowly, she starts to develop romantic feelings for him when he starts having relationship problems with Adrianna as well. Silver and Navid almost kiss, which is when they start to understand that there is something more between them. In the Best L'eid Plans, it becomes apparent that Silver indeed does have feelings for Navid when he spends the night in her room talking about his father. When Navid and his current girlfriend, Adrianna, have an argument, Silver seems relieved to hear it and hesitates but agrees when Adrianna asks her for help to fix Adrianna's and Navid's relationship by helping her plan something special. As Silver takes Navid away from the party, he confesses that he has feelings for her, but the moment is interrupted by Adrianna and Silver is left disappointed. In the episode Holiday Madness, when Navid confronts her in school, before he has a chance to explain what he feels and how he has no feelings for Adrianna anymore, she stops him from saying too much and tells him that it is because they have been spending too much time together and so they should keep their distance. Everything seems to be going well until Silver attends the sleepover at Adrianna's new house but only Silver and Navid are able to attend. The tension becomes apparent when Silver, Navid and Adrianna are to spend one night together. As Adrianna sleeps, Silver and Navid are unable to and so they run into each other in the hallway. There, Navid brings up the feelings he has for Silver again and he asks her if what he feels is all in his head. Silver says 'yes' but does not look him the eyes, making it obvious that she does not believe that. As Navid steps closer to her and asks her if she doesn't feel anything for him, the moment is interrupted by Adrianna, AGAIN. Later on at Adrianna's Christmas party, Silver finds Navid alone and as he apologizes for ruining their friendship for feelings that he "thinks" he has for her, Silver finally admits that she does have feelings for him and he kisses her.[7] Silver gets a text message from Naomi and decided to rescue her at her own apartment. Mr Cannon then holds Silver and Naomi hostage, but they eventually tie him to the chair. Naomi slaps Mr. Cannon and nearly kills him with his knife that he threatened to kill her with. But Naomi breaks down with Silver. They call the police and Mr. Cannon is arrested. Later on, Adrianna finds out about Silver and Navid. When Adrianna pretends to think it was one of Navid's ex-girlfriends, she tells Silver she is going to send a nude picture of her to the entire school. Silver stops her and comes clean that she is the one Navid was cheating with and that they are in a relationship. Adrianna then tells her she knows, and she texts a nude picture of Silver to the entire school. Silver and Adrianna go back and forth playing mean pranks before they appear to reconcile, but Adrianna switches Silver's medication for bipolar disorder. She then begins to behave strangely: she dyes her hair in red, she calls several times Christopher, the man who she had an interview with for NYU in the afternoon, etc. After receiving some distressing news about NYU, Silver has an emotional breakdown, causing Navid and Dixon to stage an intervention to make her go to a mental hospital. While Silver is in the hospital, Adrianna takes the opportunity to get close to Navid by getting him drunk and telling him that they kissed. When Navid continues to reject her, Adrianna tells Silver that Navid kissed her, effectively breaking them up. Fortunately, Silver finally discovers the truth during Ivy's bachelorette party when her medication falls out of Adrianna's purse. Adrianna is rejected by the group and Navid and Silver reconcile.
In the season four opener, Silver is still mad with Adrianna and takes it out on Navid and his sister, Lila. Whilst at Naomi's Party, Adrianna shows up with Lila and tries to apologize to Silver, but she told her that she would never forgive her. Silver revealed she was almost going to kill herself, due to Adrianna messing with her medication. Later, Silver found Teddy at the party and gives him advice on how to tell his family that he is gay.
In Rush Hour, when Navid's sister was missing, Silver told Navid to stay calm, that eventually she will come back. She used to do this when she lived with her alcoholic mother, Jackie. Silver got mad when Navid talks to Adrianna for help but she ends up asking her for help too after Lila called revealing that she has been kidnapped and they need to pay $15,000 if they wanted her back. At the end Lila is found and the kidnapped story was fake by her and a tattoo guy she met. In Let the Games Begin, Silver wanted to gain experience for her film career and decided to shoot a commercial for Liam's bar, which resulted in a big hit when a lot of people showed to attend the bar opening. In Party Politics, Silver has the opportunity to create campaign videos for political candidate Marissa Harris-Young, who is running for public office against Teddy's uncle Charles. Navid confides in Silver about his uncle blackmailing him and refuses to let her help him out. Later on that night, she tells him she needs some space and stays with Naomi.In Let the Games Begin, Silver wants to gain experience for her film career and decides to shoot a commercial for the bar that her friend Liam owns, which result as a big hit when a lot of people show at the bar opening. In Party Politics, Silver asks Annie to babysit Lelia so she can have time alone with Navid,Annie says no at first but says yes because Silver begs her for it. During her work with Marissa, Navid sends her a text asking her to be at Leila´s birthday party, Marissa starts noticing Silver distracted and tries to help her. When Naomi makes a fundraising event for Raj, Silver helps by being the host and Navid shows up again telling her the he is done with his uncle and Silver supports him until Navid leaves without telling her. She starts feeling that she cannot trust him again. Silver decides to forgive Navid and star trusting him for the Halloween party she was going dress up as Hot dog along with Navid but he cancels last minute for some work Silver decides to keep on trusting him until she came back from the party and finds him doing dirty jobs with his uncle. He breaks up with her choosing his family over her. While working on the Marissa campaign she talks to a women who appears in one of Marissa video where she help people and the women tells her that she is an actress and was paid to said that.
A few weeks later Naomi invites everyone to Vegas but Silver has some troubles due to her job with Marissa and needs to take her laptop to keep on working at Vegas she finds Navid kissing another girl and thinks he was cheating on her the whole time and looks for support in Annie who her boyfriend also cheat on her they where drinking her sorrow away until Teddy came up and decides to get married with Shane at Vegas at the wedding Silver films everything with her camera the next day when they where leaving Marissa calls Silver asking her about some videos she needs but Silver send her Teddy´s wedding by mistake along with the work videos. In "A Thousand Word" Silver is at Liam's Bar with Teddy and Shane. She said 14 videos in 40 days, she work so hard, and Silver see a woman on news talk about someone leaked to Marissa and use Charles's nephew Teddy wedding video to show everyone. Silver is shock about that and Teddy know Silver will not do that and blame Shane, they are argue front Silver. At Naomi's house, Silver look for her stuffs video in it and Annie come in to ask Silver to give her a purse back so Annie can sell it. Silver didn't listen what Annie saying because she is focus to try to figure out who did it then She find out that she did send Teddy's wedding video to Marissa by accident. Silver is on way to see Marissa to figure out who leaked the video and Marissa say she did it. Silver become upset because of that reason and she said Marissa betrayed her and she ruin her best friend's life. Silver find Teddy at Ivy's photography party and want tell Teddy about something important but Teddy said will talk about it later because he want get out there to with Liam. Silver, Naomi, and Annie stand to stare the picture of their gangs and they talk about how their life is horrible, make mistakes, and make up the problems. When Nick, Ivy's photography teacher announce to see who won for best photography and He said it is Ivy people cheer for her, Silver hug her for congrats. When Teddy is arrest and call Silver for bail on him in jail. Silver tell Teddy that she is glad that he called her because she need tell him the truth about the video. She tell Teddy about the mistake she make was send video to Marissa cause Teddy upset and he said he doesn't know if he can forgive her for that cause Silver upset.
In "Smoked Turkey" Silver is with Naomi and Annie, they are buy a drink because of the weather heat go up. Silver said she have no interest to back together with Navid. Silver met a man name Greg when he ask her for a fliers for food drive. At Naomi's house, Silver is in kitchen with Annie, she hear the ringtone and ask Annie "is that Patrick's ringtone?" Annie decline it. Annie tell Silver to stop worry about her because she is not with Patrick anymore. When Liam bring the turkey and he say "why it not brown?" Silver say it have to cook then leave to on way for food drive. At Sudent union, Greg come to Silver again, they are talk each other about the stuffs. Silver ask Greg to see if he would like to go with her friend Annie on date at Naomi's house, he say yes. At Naomi's house, Silver bring Greg to meet Annie for a date then Annie become rude. Silver say sorry and hope she is not overstepping about this but she want Annie deserve to have a nice guy in her life. Annie say thanks but Greg is clearly here for Silver. When Ivy is walk to Silver and she said Raj will be not make it for dinner. She said Silver should sit with her date then Silver say Greg isn't her date, they just met. She ask Ivy to see if she is okay then Ivy say no because she have arguement with Raj. Silver say Raj and Ivy love each other and will work out together but Ivy don't believe that. When the police arrive to the door and they say the gangs have to get out the house because of heat got worse in hill. Greg say he think he will going head to home and then Silver kiss him cause his mind change to stay with her for a minute. He say he will call her for a date next day and Silver say she would like that. The gangs arrive Liam's bar, Dixon decide to tell everyone that he is a drug addict cause Silver shock. The gangs is back to Naomi's house again and Silver is sit and enjoying eat a pie. Silver ask Annie to sit and talk about the Patrick thing. Silver tell Annie that she knew that Annie is still with Patrick and she say Annie can't stay with him because of the money then Annie say she isn't. Silver ask her "where the money come from?" Annie lie and say that she won the case by use money from Marla. Silver is seems to believe what Annie say about this.
In "Project Runaway" Silver is at Naomi's house with Ivy and Annie, They are watching a movie then Naomi come in and say to Silver that Teddy will forgive her then take blanket away from her. When Silver arrive Liam's Bar, she hear guys say something to pick on Teddy about gay. She comes to Teddy and tells him that she is very sorry about this. Teddy tells her that he gets a job in London cause Silver shock. When Navid got the window stuck, he asks Silver to close the window because she lived there before so when Silver arrive there, she tried close the window but it still stuck and Navid try help. It close now then it cause Silver fall down to bed and Navid caught her. She is getting mad at Navid and tells him that she is moving on and dating someone else causes Navid shock. At the fashion show, Silver is there with Shane, showing her support to Naomi and she spots a friend named Ronnie. When Navid sees Silver with Ronnie, he thinks Silver is dating him but later finds out Ronnie is gay. Silver sees Navid talk with Ronnie then she yelling at Navid for not move on. Teddy decides to tell Silver that he should say sorry to her for not talk with her, forgive her, and give her a flower cause Silver happy. Silver is cheer to Naomi when she on stage doing catwalk. Silver picks Teddy up to Shane's house for leave Washington D.C to be with Shane. Silver and Teddy saying goodbye to each other and when Teddy leaving, Silver standing and wave to them and smile.
In "O Holly Night" Silver is with Greg, they talk about relationship stuffs, and she say she tired of Greg take her to restaurant every night. Greg said why not movie? Silver say she want cook a dinner for Greg at his home but Greg make fake excuses then Greg's phone is ring make Silver think that Greg is hide of something from her. When Silver arrive to her home then she have a arguement with Navid for lying to her again. Silver decide to tell Greg that she know he is hide something from her then Greg admit that he have a wife but it will be soon ex-wife and he have a daughter who live with him cause Silver shock. Greg tell Silver that she may not ready for a serious relationship with him but they can have fun but not have fun at his home, Silver say she understand. When Liam can't find Annie, he see Silver at Naomi's house to ask her to see if she seen Annie yet and she say Annie leave few mintue ago with Dixon. Liam told Silver that Annie is work as escort cause Silver shock. When Silver's phone is ring, she answer the phone and Lelia want let her know that Navid is in hospital, she is shock and will on way to there. Silver is at hospital and overhear Kat talk with Navid in his room and Silver is leaving without know hear that Navid tell Kat that he is care about Silver more. Silver arrive to Greg's house,she decide to tell him that she want to take serious relationship with him, and they kiss each other.
The character of Silver was introduced in the first season of the show. She displayed some classic bipolar symptoms, including erratic, reckless behavior, racing speech, grandiose ideas, hypersexuality, lack of sleep, euphoria and confusion. As often happens during manic phases, Silver ended up making destructive decision, which ended with her at the train station, rambling and bewildered, running toward a speeding train.[8] It was confirmed in the following episode as she was diagnosed with the disorder.[9] Silver's bi-polar disorder was revisited after Adrianna tampers with her medication when implementing her plot for revenge.[10]
In Season 1, Silver is shown to have long black hair and dazzling blue eyes. She has a chilled, laid-back personality and seems to show disdain towards proms and school dances. She seemed to have her own sense of style, as she is usually seen wearing clothes probably would not be worn by a typical Beverly Hills girl. In Season 2, her hair was cut short and her sense of fashion has became more girly due to Naomi and Adrianna's influence but still remains her original style. Also, her interest in school dances seemed to have grown since she was seen going to the Snowflake Dance in "Winter Wonderland and the Pass the Torch Dance in "Confessions." in the and In Season 3, Silver's hair was styled like a tomboy's cut and dyed chocolate brown. For a short time in Season 3, while she was having another episode with her bipolar disorder, she dyed her hair an intense orange color in order to give it more "pizazz."[11] Eventually, she recolored it brown after returning from the psych ward.[12]
In 2010, Stroup won a Young Hollywood Award in the category of "Sparkling Performance" for her portrayal of Silver.[13]
